Important disclaimer
This page explains what ChatFormats is and — equally important — what it is not. Please read it carefully alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy overview.
1. ChatFormats is not a law firm
ChatFormats provides desktop software that helps legal professionals, litigation support teams, and compliance officers process WhatsApp exports into structured evidence deliverables: PDF exhibits, HTML review sets, CSV exports, privilege logs, and e‑discovery load files. The software is a productivity tool — it does not practice law, give legal opinions, interpret statutes, or advise on litigation strategy.
You should always consult a qualified lawyer licensed in your jurisdiction for legal advice. Do not rely on any output from ChatFormats as a substitute for independent professional legal counsel. No information you provide to the software (WhatsApp export, case details) creates an attorney‑client relationship with ChatFormats or any of its personnel.
2. No guarantee of admissibility, compliance, or case outcome
Admissibility & evidence rules
ChatFormats helps you generate Bates‑stamped PDF exhibits, structured logs, and load files in formats commonly used in litigation. However, we do not guarantee that any output will be admissible, authentic, or sufficient under the Federal Rules of Evidence, state evidence codes, or the rules of any foreign jurisdiction. Courts and tribunals have discretion over evidence admissibility; you remain responsible for laying proper foundation and complying with local procedural rules.
Results not guaranteed
The use of ChatFormats does not ensure any particular outcome in a legal matter (e.g., winning a motion, obtaining a favorable settlement, or avoiding discovery sanctions). Case outcomes depend on numerous factors outside the software's control, including the strength of the underlying evidence, legal arguments, judicial discretion, and opposing counsel.
3. You are responsible for professional review
All outputs require human review by qualified professionals. ChatFormats is an assistive tool; it is not a substitute for legal judgment, due diligence, or ethics obligations. You and your firm remain exclusively responsible for:
- Privilege determinations: Automated privilege keyword detection is a starting point, not a final decision. You must independently verify whether a message is privileged and should be redacted or withheld.
- Accuracy of OCR and transcriptions: Extracted text from images and voice transcriptions may contain errors. You are responsible for verifying accuracy before relying on such text in court filings or discovery responses.
- Redaction and confidentiality: Any redactions you apply using the HTML review interface or export must be reviewed to ensure compliance with protective orders and privacy laws.
- Compliance with discovery obligations: You are responsible for timely production, adherence to ESI protocols, and ensuring that load files are correctly ingested into your review platform (Relativity, Concordance, etc.).
- Chain of custody and authentication: While ChatFormats generates hash values and custody notes, you remain responsible for establishing a complete, defensible chain of custody under applicable rules.
4. Accuracy depends on the input you provide
📂 WhatsApp export integrity
ChatFormats processes the WhatsApp ZIP file exactly as provided. If the export is incomplete (e.g., missing media, truncated messages, or corrupted metadata), the outputs will reflect those gaps. You are solely responsible for ensuring that the export is full, accurate, and lawfully obtained for the relevant matter. We do not verify the authenticity of the original chat export.
🖼️ Media and OCR limitations
The software attempts to extract text from images using OCR, but OCR accuracy depends on image quality, resolution, and language. You must verify any OCR‑extracted content before using it as evidence. Similarly, voice transcription using Moonshine models is provided "as is" and may contain transcription errors; we recommend listening to original audio where precision matters.
5. Third‑party software and compatibility
ChatFormats can generate output files intended for use with third‑party systems, including Relativity, Concordance, Excel, and other e‑discovery platforms. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or responsible for the operation of those third‑party systems. Compatibility may change based on updates to those platforms. It is your responsibility to test load files and import workflows before relying on them in critical matters. We do not warrant that any export will be error‑free or compatible with your specific version of third‑party software.
6. No guarantee of error‑free or uninterrupted operation
While we strive to provide high‑quality, reliable software, no software is perfect. ChatFormats is provided "as is" and "as available" to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the software will be free from bugs, errors, security vulnerabilities, or interruptions. You should maintain backups of original WhatsApp exports and critical outputs. We strongly recommend testing the software with sample data before processing production evidence in a live matter.
For specific warranty disclaimers and limitation of liability, refer to our Terms of Service.
7. Changes to the software, documentation, and site
🔄 Continuous development
ChatFormats is under active development. Features, system requirements, supported export formats, and user interfaces may change over time. Descriptions on the website (features pages, pricing, demos) are current as of the last update but may not reflect the latest version. Screenshots and marketing materials are illustrative; actual software may vary. You should verify current functionality before making decisions that rely on specific features.
📝 Documentation updates
We may update documentation, help articles, and website content without prior notice. While we aim to keep information accurate, we do not warrant that all website content is error‑free, complete, or up‑to‑date at every moment. If you notice discrepancies, please contact us.
8. Forward‑looking statements
Our website, demo content, and roadmap discussions may contain forward‑looking statements about planned features, release dates, or integration capabilities. Such statements are aspirational and subject to change without notice. We undertake no obligation to update any forward‑looking statement. Do not rely on planned features as a basis for purchasing decisions unless confirmed in a signed agreement.
9. Regulatory and professional responsibility
ChatFormats is designed to process WhatsApp data locally to help law firms comply with data protection obligations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, state privacy laws). However, we do not warrant that any particular use of the software will automatically satisfy all legal or regulatory requirements applicable to your matter. You are responsible for:
- Compliance with data breach notification laws if your environment is compromised.
- Ensuring you have proper authority to process the exported WhatsApp messages.
- Compliance with state bar rules regarding technology competence and supervision.
If you are subject to specific regulatory frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, GLBA, EU‑specific rules), you must conduct your own assessment before using ChatFormats with sensitive data.
